CATALINA’S ORIGIN STORY

A family history became a lifelong commitment.

Barry Brucker was 16 when his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Years later, he learned that he, his mother and two of his sisters carried a BRCA gene mutation.

His mother responded to her experience by helping other women navigate life after breast cancer. Her example left Barry with more than a family history. It gave him a profound sense of responsibility.

Together, Barry and his wife, Sue, became advocates for cancer research and supporters of organizations working toward better outcomes. When Barry encountered the foundational technology that would become Catalina, he saw an opportunity to turn that lifelong commitment into action.

Today, that personal mission guides their work with Avix Medical: advancing Catalina with care, scientific rigor and an enduring belief that better information and real-time results can help shape what happens next.

The people behind Catalina.
